Frequently Asked Questions
A quick overview of common questions about how the firm works, what’s offered, and what to expect.
What does it mean that Pira Wealth Management is a fiduciary?
At Pira Wealth Management, we are fiduciaries, meaning we are legally and ethically obligated to put your best interests first. Unlike commission-based advisors, we don’t sell products or earn hidden fees. Our advice is independent and transparent.
What is “fee-only” financial planning?
“Fee-only” means we are compensated solely by you, our client. We do not receive commissions, referral fees, or other compensation from third parties. This ensures our recommendations are unbiased and aligned with your goals.
What services do you provide?
We offer comprehensive financial planning and investment management, including retirement planning, tax strategies, estate planning, risk management, and more. We tailor each plan to fit your unique financial situation and goals.
How do you charge for your services?
We use a transparent fee structure based on assets under management (AUM) or flat fees for planning services. Our fees are clearly outlined in our agreements, and there are no hidden costs.
Who do you typically work with?
We work with individuals, families, and business owners who value personalized, objective financial advice. Many of our clients are professionals, pre-retirees, and retirees, including numerous employees from the University of Iowa and the University Hospitals.
How do you create a financial plan?
Our process starts with a detailed understanding of your goals, values, and financial situation. We then create a customized plan that outlines actionable steps to help you reach your objectives, supported by ongoing advice and adjustments as needed.
Can we meet virtually?
Absolutely. We serve clients locally and across the country through secure virtual meetings. This flexibility ensures we’re available when and where you need us.
How is Pira Wealth Management different from a broker or bank advisor?
As an independent firm, we do not sell any products or receive commissions. Our advice is conflict-free, and we focus solely on what’s best for you. In contrast, brokers or bank advisors may be incentivized to sell specific products and earn kickbacks at your expense.
Where are my assets held?
Your assets are securely held at Charles Schwab, a trusted and well-established third-party custodian. This arrangement ensures an additional layer of safety and transparency. Clients receive regular account statements directly from Charles Schwab, while Pira Wealth Management manages assets on your behalf.
